All Karina Banks jewellery is made from the highest quality recycled sterling silver, 9ct gold and 18ct gold plate unless stated otherwise.
We ensure to make each piece to the highest standard and advice our customers to look after their jewellery by treating it with care and following our top tips below.
Over time metals can become dull and scratched from contact with chemicals, the natural oils from your body or by being knocked against other materials. This is why we advise you to remove all jewellery before washing, swimming and sleeping to prevent tarnishing and tangling.
If your jewellery needs a spruce you can clean it at home with a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water. Or you can bring it back to our studio for a polish/re-plate for a small fee.
We hope you find this information helpful and if you have any further questions regarding care of your jewellery then please do not hesitate to get in touch here.
18ct Gold Plating
All Karina Banks gold-plated pieces are crafted with 18ct yellow gold to a vermeil standard for a high-quality finish.
While gold plating can naturally wear away over time, proper care can significantly extend its longevity. To maintain the beauty of your jewellery, always remove gold-plated pieces before showering, sleeping, applying perfumes or lotions, swimming, or exercising. Store each piece separately to avoid scratches or damage from contact with other jewellery.
To clean your gold-plated jewellery, gently use a soft rag or toothbrush in warm, soapy water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and dry, finishing with a gentle polish using a soft cloth or a polishing cloth. My personal favourite is the Town Talk polishing cloth.
Please note that excessive handling and prolonged wear, especially with rings, can cause the plating to wear away faster due to frequent contact with skin and hard surfaces. Depending on how often it’s worn, you may need to re-plate your ring every 6 months to 1 year. For this reason, we recommend treating plated rings as occasional, rather than everyday, pieces to preserve their finish.
(Please note: Frequent cleaning and polishing may also gradually wear down the plating.)
If your jewellery requires re-plating, we’re happy to offer this service for a small fee. Feel free to contact us here for more details on pricing.
Silver
All silver Karina Banks jewellery is made from 925 Sterling Silver.
Please store your silver jewellery in a cool and dry place out of direct sunlight. Damp and hot conditions can cause tarnishing, this can also include natural oils from the skin.
Always remove silver jewellery before showering, sleeping, spraying perfumes, applying lotions, swimming or exercising as this can also promote tarnishing.
Once removed please store your silver jewellery in separate pouches or boxes to prevent the pieces from knocking against each other, as this can scratch the surface of the metal.
Silver is an extremely reactive metal and tarnishing is very normal but easily fixed. You can clean your silver jewellery in warm soapy water by using a soft rag or soft toothbrush. Please ensure to rinse your piece thoroughly and dry after, and shine up with a soft dry cloth or polishing cloth.
If your Karina Banks London piece has become scratched or tarnished and needs a polish we are happy to provide a polishing service for a small fee. Please get in touch here to enquire about polishing costs.
